Kora Silk:

Kora Silk Cotton also called “Kovai” Kora cotton is a type of saree made in the Coimbatore region in Tamil Nadu, India. Kora silk sarees are painstakingly hand woven to blend cotton and silk yarns with intricate Zari designer borders and beautiful Zari pallu. These sarees are light weight and known for a subtle shimmer presenting intricate and charming brocade weave. Saree experts say that Kora silk is a form of Banarasi organza variety, however people that own these sarees beg to differ due to its subtle lustrous, soft and lightness. Given its uniqueness, Kora silk has been recognized with a Geographical indication (GI tag) by the Government of India in 2014.

Coming from the Devanga community that pioneered weaving Kora silk cotton sarees, we pride ourselves in working closely with handpicked weavers in the Coimbatore-Tirupur-Erode-Salem belt to present you our unique weaves.

The Kora silk cotton sarees are woven on traditional handlooms by blending of silk and cotton. A superior quality cotton yarn is mixed with traditional silk to produce kora cotton. The sarees have bright colored border designs with occasional use of shining Zari. Required designs are woven in the loom using combinations of colored cotton and silk threads and the borders are added later. These weaves have crisp, lightweight and translucent textures with an added sheen that exude an aura of splendor.

Please note: Handloom sarees and materials inherently have minor slubs in the fabric, unevenness in weaves/ prints and some slight variation in color are expected outcome of an authentic handmade craftsmanship. These variations are not to be considered as damage or defective.
